Avatar - The Last Airbender

A century prior to the series' opening, when Aang was 12 years old, he was frozen into a state of suspended animation for 100 years. After being awoken by two children from the Southern Water Tribe, he finds the world at war with the Fire Nation. As the Avatar, he sets out to master the elements and ultimately defeat the Fire Lord and end the war.

Characters

Aang (Zach Tyler Eisen) is the fun-loving, 112-year-old protagonist of the series. He is the current incarnation of the Avatar, the spirit of the planet in human form. Being a reluctant hero, he admits his preference for adventure over saving the world and making friends over fighting the Fire Nation.

Katara (Mae Whitman) is a 14-year-old Waterbender of the Southern Water Tribe. In the opening of the show, Katara discovers and frees Aang from an iceberg which he was trapped in for one hundred years. With her older brother Sokka, she accompanies Aang on his quest to defeat the Fire Lord, and bring peace to the world.

Sokka (Jack DeSena) is a 16 year old warrior of the Southern Water Tribe. With his sister Katara, he accompanies Aang on his quest to defeat the Fire Lord. The joker of the group, Sokka describes himself as "meat-loving" and "sarcastic".[22] Unlike his companions, Sokka cannot bend an element, but the series frequently grants him opportunities to use his true gifts: ingenuity and use of weapons.

Toph Bei Fong (Jessie Flower) is a 12-year-old, blind Earthbender. In the second season of the show, she leaves her wealthy family and home to join Aang on his quest, with a plan to teach him earthbending. Though blind, Toph "sees" with Earthbending; she feels the vibrations in the ground through her feet.

Zuko (Dante Basco) is the 16 year old exiled prince of the Fire Nation, and original antagonist of the series. In the first season, Zuko is obsessed with capturing the Avatar. Due to events in Zuko's past, his father, Fire Lord Ozai, deems him a complete failure. Over time, Zuko struggles to deal with his anger, self-pity, and familial relationships; meanwhile, he grows sympathetic to the peoples his nation has terrorized. In the 3rd season, he breaks away from his father and joins Aang and the team and is now Aang's firebending teacher.

Azula (Grey DeLisle) is the 14 year-old princess of the Fire Nation. She is Zuko's younger sister and one of the major antagonists of the series. Cruel and self-centered since youth, Azula is manipulative, sadistic and a self-admitted monster. She has no qualms about bullying and threatening her relatives, reserving any familial loyalty for her father, who favors her.

Iroh (Mako in seasons 1 and 2, Greg Baldwin onwards) is a retired Fire Nation general and Prince Zuko's uncle. Being the older brother of Fire Lord Ozai, Iroh was the original heir to the Fire Nation throne.[25] On the surface, Iroh is a cheerful and kind old man, but underneath his exterior remains a competent warrior and a devoted surrogate parent.

Aang, Katara, Sokka and Toph escape the library to face the desert without the benefit of Aang's flying bison, Appa. The group knows they must get the information they obtained from the library about the upcoming solar eclipse to earth kingdom capital of Bah Sing Se as it could very well make the difference in the ongoing war with the Fire Nation. Aang, who has always felt somewhat isolated by the realization that he is indeed the last air bender, considers Appa and Momo his only connections to his previous 100-year ago world. When Appa is stolen by sand benders Aang is visibly devastated and without direction or hope. Katara really shines in this episode as she must deal with Aang's despair, Sokka's cactus-induced hallucinations and Toph's lack of support or good ideas to solve their dilemma as she too feels they are just trapped in a 'giant bowl of sand pudding.' The highlight of this episode is when Aang finally confronts the sand benders who Toph recognizes as those who stole Appa. A showdown ensues and Sokka, Toph and the sand benders flee for their lives in fear of seeing Aang transform his rage and pain into the 'Avatar State.' Despite the apparent danger Katara remains in the whirlwind of sand unshaken. Again we see the growing 'understanding' between the Katara and Aang continue to develop. Katara trusts Aang enough to know he will not hurt her in the 'Avatar State' and Aang trusts Katara enough to let his defenses down to be vulnerable but only with her. Katara pulls Aang back and he returns sobbing quietly in her arms. Meanwhile Uncle Iroh and Prince Zuko successfully evade two groups seeking their capture as Fire Nation fugitives. Through Iroh's membership in the "Order of the White Lotus" they secure safe passage to Bah Sing Se to 'hide in plain sight' as refugees.

Just as all hope of winning is lost, Toph arrives and together, the six attack Azula. Knowing she is beat, Azula shots Iaro with lightning and disappears. Zuko leaves with Iaro and Aang, Katara, Sokk, and Toph leave as well. Toph and Katara apologize to each other and the journey continues.

Iroh attacks Zhao when Zhao reveals that he wants to kill the spirits of the moon and the ocean. In the Spirit World, Aang meets Koh the Face Stealer, who tells him that someone is planning on killing the spirits and he needs to stop them. Katara, Sokka, and Yue find Aang and they rescue him, taking Zuko with them. Zhao kills the moon spirit and the waterbenders lose their power. Yue reveals that the spirit once saved her. Iroh and Aang team up against Zhao. Zhao and Zuko escape as Aang turns into a giant spirit and goes to fight the firebenders. Elsewhere, Zuko and Zhao fight desperately. Yue sacrifices her own life to save the moon spirit. The moon returns and Aang turns back to himself. But the spirit still has one more mission. It kills Zhao. In the end, everything is well. Aang and the gang are heading to Ba Sing Sei, Zuko and Iroh have escaped, and in the Fire Nation, Azula is given a mission.

Meanwhile, Aang is being adored by the town's female population. Katara seems annoyed but is only concerned for Aang's safety. When Zuko arrives on Kyoshi and begins to wreak havoc on the small island Aang makes the decision to leave, no longer endangering the lives of the people living there. Zuko follows.
